Yeray Barroso to Headline 'Literary Café' at Cabildo Bookstore in Santa Cruz
The Cabildo Bookstore in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host author Yeray Barroso this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for a "Literary Café" session exploring his work as a poet, researcher, and advocate for Canarian literature.
This Thursday, the Cabildo Bookstore in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host a new session of the "Literary Café: The Rhapsode's Hour." Starting at 6:30 p.m., the event aims to bridge the gap between authors and their readers.
This week’s guest is Yeray Barroso, a standout writer from the generation born in the 1990s. Moderated by Roberto Toledo Palliser, the session—titled "This business of living poetry"—will explore Barroso’s multifaceted career as a poet, researcher, and editor.
Barroso, a graduate of the University of La Laguna, is deeply committed to preserving the Canary Islands' literary history. Alongside his own poetry—including Ceremonia, which won the 2018 Canary Islands New Writing Award—he is known for his important work in recovering lost texts. His notable contributions include editing Josefina Zamora’s short stories in La mirada infinita and conducting an academic study on the postmodern influence in the work of Félix Francisco Casanova.
The event is part of a broader effort by cultural institutions to make the writing process more accessible and relatable to the public. The session will offer a unique look at how academic research and creative writing intersect, highlighting Barroso’s role as a key figure in protecting and promoting Canarian literature.
