
Woman in her 60s dies after drowning incident at Las Teresitas beach
A woman in her 60s has died after being pulled from the water in cardiac arrest at Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Safety on the Canary Islands coastline is back in the spotlight following a tragedy this afternoon at Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. According to the Canary Islands’ emergency services (CECOES 112), a woman in her 60s has died after being pulled from the water in cardiac arrest.
Emergency protocols were triggered just before 7:00 p.m. following reports of the woman’s critical condition. Nearby beachgoers acted quickly to provide initial help, followed by Red Cross lifeguards who performed CPR until medical teams arrived.
Despite prolonged efforts by the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) to resuscitate her, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. National and Local Police attended the incident to assist medical staff and have since begun the necessary legal procedures to investigate the circumstances of the death.
This incident highlights the vital importance of beach safety and the need for quick coordination between the public and emergency services during water-related medical crises. Las Teresitas, one of the capital's busiest beaches, remained under police control while the body was removed and legal formalities were completed.
