Woman in Critical Condition After Near-Drowning Incident in Tenerife
A woman remains in critical condition after being rescued from the water in El Rosario, Tenerife, following a successful emergency intervention by bystanders and medical responders.
Safety on the Canary Islands coastline is back in the spotlight following a serious incident in El Rosario, Tenerife, this Saturday, April 25. According to the 112 Emergency and Security Coordination Center, a woman was rescued from the water in critical condition and remains hospitalized at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands.
The incident highlights how vital bystander intervention is during the first few minutes of an aquatic emergency. Emergency services reported that witnesses at the scene began rescue efforts immediately, which proved decisive. This allowed the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) team to perform advanced CPR and successfully stabilize the victim after she suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. She was then transported to the hospital by a medicalized ambulance.
This event underscores the challenges of coastal safety in the archipelago, where sea conditions can change rapidly. The Civil Guard also assisted in the operation, helping with support and incident management. Health authorities are continuing to monitor the patient, who remains in critical condition.
