A 26-year-old woman was hospitalized with moderate injuries after a scaffolding collapse on a street in Santa Cruz de Tenerife prompted an official investigation into construction safety protocols.

Safety standards for temporary construction structures are under scrutiny again following an accident this Wednesday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. According to the Canary Islands’ emergency services (CECOES 112), a 26-year-old woman was hospitalized after scaffolding collapsed on Fernández Navarro Street, striking her as she walked by.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 3:18 p.m., highlighting the risks that construction equipment can pose in busy urban areas. A basic life support unit was dispatched to the scene, where paramedics treated the woman for moderate injuries before transporting her to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital for further care.

This accident has prompted calls to review the installation and maintenance protocols for metal structures on building facades. Technical regulations require these structures to undergo regular inspections and include safety measures to protect the public. While medical teams assisted the victim, National and Local Police cordoned off the area to manage traffic. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and whether the scaffolding’s assembly or anchoring systems were faulty.
