Woman, 78, Rescued From Tenerife Sea
Emergency services rescued a 78-year-old woman with minor injuries from the sea in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, after she encountered difficulties.
A 78-year-old woman was rescued this Sunday in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, after getting into difficulty in the sea. The incident highlighted the effectiveness of emergency protocols on the Canary Islands' coasts. The Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 112 reported that the alarm was raised at 11:34 AM, leading to a swift response from multiple security and rescue agencies.
The rescue operation, which took place in an area known as El Penitente, involved a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), a basic life support ambulance from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), and a Maritime Rescue vessel. Before these specialized teams arrived, two local police officers and two lifeguards who were already at the scene had started helping the swimmer.
The 78-year-old woman was hoisted by the helicopter and taken to a nearby open space for an initial medical evaluation, where she was diagnosed with minor injuries. She was then transferred to Hospiten Bellevue hospital for a more thorough examination. The four initial responders – the two police officers and two lifeguards – were transported to the pier by the Maritime Rescue vessel, and none of them sustained any injuries.
