Willy Ríos’s ‘Solos’ Hits Theaters Following Milestone Tenerife Premiere
Tenerife-born director Willy Ríos’s latest feature, Solos, arrives in Spanish theaters this Friday following its milestone 100th production for Álamo Producciones.
The Spanish film industry is spotlighting island talent once again with Solos, the latest feature from Tenerife-born director Willy Ríos. Following successful screenings at the Málaga Film Festival and a premiere in Madrid, the film held its final presentation this Tuesday at Multicines Tenerife in La Laguna. It will be released in theaters nationwide this Friday.
The film marks a major milestone for producer Eduardo Campoy, serving as the 100th title under his Álamo Producciones label. It features an ensemble cast including Kira Miró, Salva Reina, Carlos Santos, and Elia Galera. Adapted from Paloma Bravo’s book, the story takes place in a single location, focusing entirely on the dialogue and emotional growth of the characters as they navigate a shared dinner.
By using this minimalist, "closed-chamber" format, Ríos taps into a growing trend in Spanish cinema that finds universal themes in everyday life. The film uses humor and vulnerability to explore the complexities of human relationships, personal dissatisfaction, and shared fears.
A collaboration between Secuoya Studios, Álamo Producciones, and A Contracorriente Films, the project was filmed entirely in the Canary Islands. After the La Laguna screening, the cast and crew took part in a Q&A session moderated by the group Charlas de Cine, emphasizing the value of connecting creators directly with their audience.
