In Tenerife, volunteer firefighters received eight new vehicles worth 400,000 euros for rapid response to fires, especially in forest areas.
In Tenerife, volunteer firefighters have received new equipment! Thanks to the support of the local authorities (Cabildo) and the fire consortium, they have received 8 new vehicles worth €400,000.
These vehicles will be distributed among volunteer fire teams in various parts of the island: La Laguna, Tegueste, Güímar, Adeje, Guía de Isora, Santiago del Teide, Icod-Icoden-Daute, and Los Realejos. This will help volunteers better prevent fires and extinguish them more quickly.
Each team will receive a pickup truck with all the necessary equipment for extinguishing small forest fires. Each such vehicle costs €50,000.
The main task of these vehicles is to quickly detect and extinguish small fires, especially in forests, fields, and near houses. They will also be used to prevent re-ignition after large fires.
According to representatives of the Cabildo, these vehicles are capable of extinguishing a fire with a perimeter of up to 120 meters in just 10 minutes. Thanks to their maneuverability and speed, they will become indispensable assistants in the fight against fire.
Local authorities emphasize that supporting volunteer firefighters is very important, as they play a key role in emergency situations, especially during large fires. Thanks to the new equipment, volunteers will be able to assist professional firefighters more effectively, especially in areas where fire threatens homes.
Rosa Dávila, president of the island institution, assured that this is only one of the steps in the strategy to protect Tenerife. The authorities are doing everything possible to provide the island with everything necessary to respond to any emergency. She also thanked the volunteers for their dedicated work.
Iván Martín, Director of Security, emphasized that the safety of people is a priority, so the authorities continue to improve the equipment of fire teams. He also recalled that last year the volunteers received new suits for working in various conditions.
In addition, this year the fire consortium allocated €450,000 to volunteer organizations to cover the costs associated with their activities. This money will help volunteers purchase equipment, repair equipment, and improve their skills.
The first volunteer fire brigade in the Canary Islands appeared in Adeje in 1986. Their work became an example for others. There are now 8 such organizations in Tenerife, uniting about 600 people ready to help in the event of a major fire, as was the case in the summer of 2023.
