Villa de La Orotava Prioritizes Youth, Education, Culture Over Road Repairs in 2026 Budget
Villa de La Orotava's 2026 budget prioritizes youth, education, culture, and sports with 11 million euros, alongside 8 million for social welfare, over road repairs, as Mayor Linares emphasizes investing in people's lives.
Mayor Francisco Linares has outlined the priorities for Villa de La Orotava's 2026 budget, emphasizing that "young people, education, culture, and sports come first, then comes the asphalt." He highlighted this by contrasting the half a million euros allocated for road repairs with the 400,000 euros set aside for a new study room that will be accessible around the clock, every day of the year.
The budget dedicates 11 million euros to Culture, Education, Sports, Youth, Festivals, and Heritage. Combined with eight million euros for Social Welfare, this totals 19 million euros focused on "people's lives." The mayor stated, "Asphalt protects car tires, but culture protects people."
He also described initiatives such as the music and dance school, scholarships, sports programs, public library staff, playgrounds, and the new Youth Center as "options, not obligations."
