Veranos del Taoro Festival Launches 'Espacio Raíz' to Showcase Contemporary Dance in Puerto de la Cruz
The fifth annual Veranos del Taoro Festival in Puerto de la Cruz introduces the free "Espacio Raíz" venue, featuring a series of contemporary dance performances and community workshops from June 18 to 20.
The fifth annual Veranos del Taoro Festival in Puerto de la Cruz is introducing a major change this year: the "Espacio Raíz" (Root Space). Organizers say this new open-air venue in Sortija Park is designed to bridge the gap between contemporary dance and Canarian cultural heritage.
The festival runs from June 18 to 20, with all events in this space free to the public. The program kicks off on Thursday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m. with Emiliana Battista, who will perform a piece focused on human introspection. On Friday at 6:30 p.m., Raquel Jara will use body language to explore how we manage emotions, memory, and uncertainty. The cycle concludes on Saturday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Gran Hotel Taoro, where Guadalupe Torres will blend flamenco and folklore to examine cultural heritage and family bonds.
The festival is also promoting inclusivity with the "Nido" (Nest) initiative, led by Laura Marrero. This community dance session takes place on Saturday, June 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the Espacio Raíz. No dance experience is needed, and anyone is welcome to join the creative process. To participate, please register by emailing veranosdeltaoro@encarofactory.com.
The festival has become a staple of Tenerife’s cultural calendar thanks to a partnership between the public and private sectors. It is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands (via Canary Islands Tourism), the Tenerife Island Council, and the Puerto de la Cruz City Council. Additional support comes from sponsors including the Gran Hotel Taoro, Binter, Coca-Cola, Heineken, Auto Laca Canarias, and Crea SGR.
