Verano de Cuento Festival Returns to Tenerife with Storytelling and Urban Art

The 27th annual Verano de Cuento festival is back in El Sauzal, Tenerife, once again blending traditional storytelling with modern urban art. Supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Tenerife Island Council, the El Sauzal City Council, and the DISA Foundation, the festival continues its mission to use the spoken word to bring the community together throughout the summer.

This week’s schedule is divided into two main categories:

For Adults On Friday at 9:00 p.m., the Teatro El Sauzal will host two intimate performances. Juan Reyes will present a piece exploring the contrast between arid landscapes and the sea. Following him, Irene Reina will take the stage with an ethnographic journey through the borderlands of Huelva and Portugal, highlighting oral history, traditional songs, and the stories of influential women from the region’s shared past.

For Families On Saturday at 11:00 a.m., storyteller María Jesús Batista will lead a session at the same theater. Recommended for children aged six and up, her performance uses storytelling to explore themes of self-acceptance and personal identity, contrasting the pressure to succeed with the realities of everyday life.

Beyond Storytelling The festival also embraces contemporary culture. On Saturday night, the event will feature a freestyle rap battle starring artists Lobo, Dropper, and Chausa.
