Van Fire Destroys Vehicle and Damages Building in San Cristóbal de La Laguna
Firefighters extinguished a van fire in the Barrio Nuevo area of San Cristóbal de La Laguna this afternoon, with no injuries reported despite damage to a nearby building.
Emergency services were called to San Cristóbal de La Laguna this afternoon after a van caught fire, causing alarm among residents in the Barrio Nuevo area.
The incident occurred on Calle Los Guanches, near Calle El Puente. The fire was so intense that a large plume of smoke was visible from as far away as Las Chumberas. While the van was completely destroyed, the heat also damaged the exterior wall of a nearby building, highlighting the risks of vehicle fires in crowded residential neighborhoods.
Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium worked to extinguish the blaze and cool the wreckage, while local and national police cordoned off the area. A medical unit from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) remained on standby as a precaution, though no injuries were reported.
Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire to determine if it was triggered by a mechanical fault or other factors. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of rapid response protocols when dealing with fires in densely populated urban centers.
