Urbaser waste management workers protested in Tacoronte, threatening a Christmas strike across six towns due to unsatisfactory working conditions.

Waste management workers from Urbaser, who handle rubbish collection for several towns in the Northern Commonwealth (El Rosario, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Victoria, La Matanza, and Santa Úrsula), protested yesterday in Tacoronte. They gathered outside the Commonwealth's offices to demand better working conditions.

Over 50 workers chanted slogans like "Commonwealth, tell the truth!", "If this isn't fixed, we'll fight!", "We're not slaves, just parents," and "We're garbage collectors, not criminals."

The protest started at 1 p.m. and lasted for almost an hour. Passing cars showed their support by honking their horns when they saw the signs and learned about the situation.

Ángel Demetrio Yanes de la Rosa, the chairman of the works council, warned that if no agreement is reached, a strike will begin at Christmas, affecting all six towns.

He acknowledged that this could inconvenience residents but emphasized that the dispute is with the company, not the public.
