University of La Laguna to Suspend In-Person Services for Summer Shutdown

The University of La Laguna (ULL) will close its physical campuses and suspend all in-person services from 9:00 p.m. this Friday until the morning of Tuesday, August 25. The university states this temporary shutdown is intended to optimize operations and manage resources more efficiently.

This closure affects the university’s administrative calendar. According to the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, the period from August 8 to 24 is now considered non-working for Technical, Management, and Administration and Services Staff (PTGAS) selection processes. For teaching and research staff, the suspension is even broader, impacting the publication of resolutions, administrative deadlines, and the work of evaluation committees.

While this summer shutdown is a standard practice among Spanish universities to reduce energy and maintenance costs during a quiet period, the university’s digital systems will remain available. Users can still access the electronic office, though any requests submitted during the closure will not be processed until normal operations resume.

The university has made exceptions for critical research projects that require constant monitoring, such as those involving living beings. Additionally, essential online services—including institutional email, the virtual campus, and the university website—will remain active for information purposes, even though they will not trigger immediate administrative action on files during this time.
