University of La Laguna Hosts Bernardo García Morales Exhibition at Viana Courtyard
The University of La Laguna is hosting Naturalezas, an exhibition by Bernardo García Morales at the Viana Courtyard that features paintings incorporating organic materials from the Canary Islands landscape through November 27.
The University of La Laguna (ULL) is continuing its mission to bring more art to the island with a new exhibition that connects the local landscape with visual art. The Viana Courtyard, managed by the university’s Vice-Rectorate for Culture and University Extension, is now hosting Naturalezas (Natures), a collection of works by artist Bernardo García Morales.
Curated by Nuria Segovia Martín, the exhibition explores how organic matter can be translated into painting. García Morales incorporates items gathered from across the Canary Islands—including plant remains, sediment, rocks, and shells—directly into his work. By doing so, he captures the physical reality of the landscape and highlights the natural process of decay and transformation, giving these materials a new aesthetic life.
The exhibition is located at 50 Viana Street in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and will be open until November 27. It is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
This project is part of the ULL’s broader effort to share culture beyond the classroom and turn its historic spaces into hubs for both academic research and contemporary art. The exhibition serves as both a thoughtful display and a record of the Canary Islands' natural environment, challenging viewers to consider the line between found objects and artistic expression.
