UNED’s La Laguna center will open early at 6:00 a.m. on June 12 to ensure students can reach their scheduled exams despite widespread road closures caused by the Pope's visit to Tenerife.

June 12 will be a difficult day for travel in Tenerife due to Pope Leo XIV’s visit, which will cause major road closures across the island. Despite these disruptions, the National Distance Education University (UNED) has confirmed that exams at its La Laguna center will proceed as scheduled.

Because UNED exams are synchronized nationwide, the university cannot postpone the tests. To help students manage the situation, the La Laguna center at 30 San Agustín Street will open early at 6:00 a.m. This allows students to arrive before traffic restrictions intensify, particularly around 10:20 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Traffic and Road Closures The security operation will cause significant delays on the TF-5 and several secondary roads:

  • Towards Santa Cruz: The TF-5 will be closed from Guamasa to exit 8A between 8:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., and from La Laguna to the capital between 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.
  • Towards the North: Traffic from Santa Cruz toward Tenerife North Airport will be affected between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • Regional Roads: Expect further restrictions on the TF-24, TF-13, TF-152, and TF-235, which will impact travel in the La Esperanza and Acentejo areas.

Exam Access Protocols To ensure students can reach their exams, the university has implemented strict access rules:

  • Entry: You must enter the building via Juan de Vera Street.
  • Required Documents: You must present your national ID, university card, enrollment form, and exam schedule to gain entry.

The university strongly advises students to plan ahead, use public transport where possible, and park outside the La Laguna city center to avoid the worst of the congestion. These measures are in place to ensure all students have the opportunity to complete their exams despite the island-wide security operations.
