Underdressed Hikers Rescued from Teide with Mild Hypothermia
Two hikers were rescued Friday night from Teide National Park's Altavista Refuge after suffering mild hypothermia due to being underdressed for cold temperatures.
Two hikers had to be rescued on Friday night in Teide National Park, the Civil Guard reported. The pair were at the Altavista Refuge, apparently not dressed warmly enough for the cold temperatures in that area.
When Civil Guard officers and Tenerife firefighters located them, both hikers were in good condition, although they showed symptoms of mild hypothermia.
Spain's weather agency, Aemet, stated that summit stations on Tenerife recorded minimum temperatures between -0.6 and 0.3 degrees Celsius overnight.
After being found, the hikers spent the night with the Civil Guard's Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) and firefighters. They began their descent from the refuge early the next morning.
According to the Civil Guard, neither of the hikers required medical assistance.
