The Tenerife Echeyde Women's team has secured their position as group leaders in the Conference Cup. They finished the group stage with a victory over Serbian Vojvodina, ensuring they remain unbeaten in the European competition and qualify for the Final Eight. This achievement confirms the Canarian team has met its goals.
The match, played in Serbia, started with high intensity. After a few minutes without any goals, Carla Martín scored the first goal from a penalty, making it 0-1. Although the Serbian team quickly responded, coach Enrique Cruz's players took control. They extended their lead with goals from Elena Camarena, Mallory Reynoso, and Renée De Kleer, ending the first quarter 2-4. In the second period, the Tenerife squad maintained control, with scores from Maryn Dempsey and De Kleer, leading 4-8 at halftime despite the home team's efforts to catch up.
The second half began with Echeyde extending their lead even further to 4-9. However, Vojvodina fought back with three quick goals, bringing the score to a tense 7-9. Carla Martín scored another penalty to calm things down, and Macu Bello made a crucial save, stopping another penalty. This allowed Maryn Dempsey to score and end the third quarter 8-11. In the final quarter, the strong defense of the "Guayotas" was crucial. With goals from Dempsey, Carla Martín, and María Ramos, Echeyde secured the victory with a final score of 10-15, giving them a perfect record of six wins from six Conference Cup matches.
This win not only confirms their first-place finish in the group but also makes the Tenerife Echeyde Women's team a strong contender for the Final Eight, which is scheduled for March 26-29. Before the European finals, the team will return to their domestic league next Saturday. They will host Iruña, who are currently last in the league, in a match set for 11:00 AM.
