Ultramarathon Star Courtney Dauwalter Joins Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®
Ultramarathon star Courtney Dauwalter, renowned for her 2023 Ultra-Trail Triple Crown, will compete in the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, significantly elevating the event's international profile.
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® is set to be a major international event this year, with the exciting news that Courtney Dauwalter will be taking part. She's one of the biggest names in ultramarathon running worldwide. Her involvement, announced by the organizers, makes this race in the Canary Islands truly special. Dauwalter, an American runner, made history in 2023 by becoming the first person ever to win the three most famous ultra-races in the world in one season: the Western States 100, the Hardrock 100, and the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB). This incredible achievement, known as the Ultra-Trail Triple Crown, shows just how dominant she is in the sport.
Dauwalter, who runs for Salomon and has a UTMB Index of 837 (a high ranking for runners), will compete in the 110-kilometer race. She'll be up against other elite athletes. Her impressive career includes more than fifty wins in top races, along with course records at events like the Hardrock 100, Western States 100, UTMB, and Moab 240. She often performs so well that she not only wins the women's race but also places highly in the overall competition against all runners. But it's not just her records that make her stand out. Dauwalter is also known for her strong mental game, her incredible resilience (often talking about her 'Pain Cave' concept), and her unique running style, which includes wearing long, baggy shorts. These qualities have made her a role model and inspiration for the entire trail running community.
Yolanda Moliné, the Minister of Sports for the Cabildo de Tenerife (Tenerife Island Council), said that Dauwalter's participation is a huge boost for the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®. Moliné explained that having an athlete of her standing, with such major achievements and a personality that goes beyond just sports, not only makes the race more competitive but also establishes it as a must-attend event on the global ultra-trail calendar.
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® is organized by the Cabildo through its public company, Ideco. This year's event will run from March 19 to 21. This year, 3,400 runners from 64 countries are expected to participate. The event will have a large team of over 700 people managing security, logistics, and emergencies, supported by more than 200 volunteers.
The race receives support from the Cabildo de Tenerife's Sports Department (through its DXTenerife brand) and from Turismo de Tenerife (with its 'Tenerife awakens emotions' slogan). Additional support comes from the Government of the Canary Islands (under the Islas Canarias brand) and from various companies including Fred. Olsen, Hospiten, Libby’s, Clínica del Pie Orotava, Cocacola Europacific Partners, Isola, Fonteide, La Fast, QRV Emergencias, La Molineta, Tirma, Quanarian, Mahou 00 Tostada, and Cultesa.
