ULL Marks 50 Years of Democratic Transition with Film Series
The University of La Laguna is commemorating 50 years of Spain's democratic Transition with a free film series and expert discussions at Multicines Tenerife, preceding the 5th Tenerife Spanish Film Festival which will also honor the era.
The University of La Laguna (ULL) is marking 50 years since Spain's move to democracy, known as the democratic Transition. As part of its "For Freedom. Spain after 1975" program, the ULL Film Classroom is showing a series of three important films from that era.
These films will be screened at Multicines Tenerife, starting tonight at 7:00 PM. Further showings will take place on the next two Wednesdays, December 10th and 17th. Entry is free, but you'll need to pick up a ticket from the cinema box office on the day of the screening to manage audience numbers. After each film, experts will lead a discussion.
The series kicks off this Wednesday with "Gary Cooper, Who Art in Heaven" (Pilar Mir贸, 1980). It continues with "7 Days in January" (Juan Antonio Bardem, 1979) and wraps up on December 17th with "Dark Habits" (Pedro Almod贸var, 1983).
This film series, supported by the "Charlas de Cine" Association, also sets the stage for the 5th Tenerife Spanish Film Festival. This festival runs from December 11th to 14th and will also feature events remembering the Spanish Transition.
Notable figures from Spanish cinema will attend, including actress Mercedes Sampietro, who will be honored with the festival's Honorary Award. Director and occasional actor Fernando Colomo, and actor and director Carlos Iglesias will also be present.
