Two swimmers were rescued by helicopter in Tenerife on Saturday after being pulled out to sea from a natural pool they entered despite a coastal alert and six-meter waves, with both later hospitalised.

Two swimmers had to be rescued this Saturday in Tenerife after being pulled out to sea. They had entered Charco Verde, a natural pool, despite a coastal alert and waves reaching up to six meters high.

The Helimer 201 helicopter from Maritime Rescue reached the two swimmers, aged 33 and 36, in the popular Charco Verde natural pool in La Guancha, Tenerife. They had been dragged into an area that was difficult to reach.

According to the state agency, the emergency began around 6:12 PM on Saturday. The Security and Emergency Coordinating Center (Cecoes 112) received a call about a person in distress in the area. This led to the activation of various emergency services, including the Fire Department.

However, due to the challenging terrain and the approaching darkness, Fire Department personnel couldn't reach the area. They requested an aerial rescue, prompting Maritime Rescue to deploy the Helimer 201. While the helicopter was on its way, rescuers learned there was a second swimmer who also needed help.

Eventually, both swimmers managed to get out of the water by themselves and were then helped on land by the Fire Department.

Around 7:51 PM, the helicopter, carrying the two rescued swimmers, flew to Tenerife North Airport. Medical teams waiting there then took the injured individuals to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. One person had moderate trauma, and the other had minor abrasions.

The Civil Guard also assisted the emergency teams and began their investigation into the incident.
