Two Pedestrians Die in Separate Tenerife Road Incidents
Two pedestrians, an 80-year-old man and a woman in her 40s, died in separate vehicle collisions in Tenerife on Saturday, prompting road safety concerns.
Saturday was a tragic day for road safety in Tenerife, as two pedestrians died after being hit by vehicles in separate incidents. The 112 Emergency and Security Coordinating Center for the Canary Islands government released this information, raising concerns about how safe pedestrians are on the island's roads.
One of the accidents happened in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where an 80-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle. This incident occurred on the Rambla, in Tenerife's capital city, around 1:30 PM. Emergency teams, including the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), Local Police, and Tenerife Firefighters, rushed to the scene but could only confirm the man had died.
Hours earlier, in Arona, a town in the south of the island, a woman in her 40s also died after being hit on the TF-653 road. The 112 emergency call came in at 6:51 AM. Despite efforts by SUC and primary care medical staff who performed CPR, they couldn't save her, and her death was confirmed at the scene.
Local Police are investigating both incidents to understand exactly what happened. These events highlight how vulnerable pedestrians are in towns and on roads, and show the need to review and improve road safety and prevention measures.
