Two Motorcyclists Injured in Tenerife Rush-Hour Crashes
Two separate motorcycle accidents caused significant traffic disruption across Tenerife on Tuesday morning, leaving two riders hospitalized with injuries.
Road safety in Tenerife was back in the spotlight on Tuesday morning, May 12, after a series of accidents caused major traffic disruption across the island. According to the 112 Emergency and Security Coordination Center, two separate collisions between cars and motorcycles occurred early in the day, highlighting the risks faced by motorcyclists in heavy traffic.
The first crash happened at 6:50 a.m. on the TF-281 near La Hidalga in Arafo. A 44-year-old man suffered abdominal injuries and bruising. Emergency services stabilized him at the scene before taking him to the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital. The Civil Guard is currently investigating the cause of the accident on this busy road leading to the Güímar Valley.
Just 20 minutes later, at 7:11 a.m., a second accident occurred on the TF-5 motorway near Taco, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. The motorcyclist involved sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the Rambla Hospital. The Tenerife Island Council’s road crews had to clear the scene, and the Civil Guard’s presence led to significant delays for commuters heading into the capital during the morning rush hour.
These incidents are part of a recurring issue on the island. The mix of heavy early-morning traffic and the vulnerability of motorcycles on busy roads continues to challenge local traffic management. These accidents not only pose a serious risk to drivers but also bring traffic to a standstill, serving as a reminder of the need for extreme caution and strict adherence to safety distances when sharing the road.
