Two people were hospitalized following a two-car collision this afternoon near Bocacangrejo in El Rosario, prompting an investigation into road safety on Tenerife’s secondary routes.

Road safety on Tenerife’s secondary roads is back in the spotlight following a two-car crash this afternoon near the entrance to Bocacangrejo in El Rosario. According to the Canary Islands' emergency services (CECOES 112), the collision caused two injuries and triggered a major response in an area that sees heavy traffic every weekend.

Emergency teams were alerted to the crash at 1:41 p.m. Two ambulances—one advanced life support and one basic—were dispatched to the scene. A man with moderate abdominal injuries was stabilized by paramedics before being taken to the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital. A woman was also transported to Hospital Parque suffering from bruising and minor neck pain.

The Civil Guard and Local Police attended the scene to begin an investigation into what caused the accident. Meanwhile, the Tenerife Island Council’s road maintenance crew worked to clear the debris and reopen the road to traffic.

This incident highlights the strain placed on local infrastructure by high volumes of weekend traffic. Authorities are now investigating whether the road layout or a traffic violation contributed to the crash, which is a key step in determining responsibility and improving road safety in the region.
