Two Injured in Paragliding Accident at Tenerife’s Taucho Takeoff Site
Two men were hospitalized with moderate injuries following a paragliding accident at the Taucho takeoff site in Tenerife that required a complex aerial rescue operation.
Air sports in the Canary Islands are back in the spotlight following an accident this afternoon in Adeje, Tenerife. According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (1-1-2), two men, aged 64 and 22, needed urgent medical help after falling at the Taucho paragliding takeoff site.
The incident occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. Because the terrain is difficult to access, a complex rescue operation was required. Intervention teams located the men, and the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) airlifted them to a nearby helipad.
Once on the ground, emergency medical teams stabilized both men, who suffered moderate injuries from the fall. They were then taken to Hospitén Sur University Hospital and Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital, where they remain under observation.
This incident highlights the risks of free-flight activities in mountainous areas. While the sport has strict safety protocols, accidents still occur. Taucho is a popular spot for paragliding, a sport that requires constant attention to weather conditions and equipment. Authorities are now investigating the exact cause of the fall.
