A head-on collision between a hearse and a rental car on Tenerife’s TF-5 highway has prompted renewed calls for improved traffic safety near the island's Northern Hospital.

Road safety on Tenerife’s main roads is under scrutiny again following a head-on collision on the TF-5 near Icod de los Vinos this Thursday. The crash, which involved a hearse and a rental car, has drawn attention to the risks of high-traffic areas near critical sites like the Northern Hospital.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 2:30 p.m. Civil Guard officers, local police, firefighters, and two medical teams from the Canary Islands Emergency Service arrived shortly after. Fortunately, no one was trapped in the vehicles, so rescue teams did not need to use extrication equipment.

The two men involved—aged 41 and another whose age was not specified—both suffered neck pain and injuries caused by their seatbelts. After being treated at the scene, they were taken to Hospiten Bellevue in Puerto de la Cruz for further care.

This accident has reignited discussions about traffic management near the island’s hospitals. Authorities emphasize that in areas with high medical traffic, clear signage and driver caution are essential to preventing serious incidents. An investigation into the exact cause of the collision is ongoing.
