Two Hospitalized After Fire in El Sobradillo, Tenerife
Two men were hospitalized, one in critical condition, following a residential fire in the El Sobradillo neighborhood of Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Monday evening.
Safety concerns have been raised following a serious fire in the El Sobradillo neighborhood of Santa Cruz de Tenerife this Monday. According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (1-1-2), the blaze broke out shortly after 8:00 p.m. in a building on El Sorondongo Street, leaving two men trapped inside.
Firefighters from the Tenerife Fire Department were instrumental in the rescue, pulling both men from the building before extinguishing the flames and ventilating the property. Experts note that in such incidents, the rapid buildup of toxic smoke in confined spaces is often as dangerous as the fire itself, frequently leading to severe health complications even when external burns are not present.
Both victims required urgent medical attention. One man, suffering from smoke inhalation and burns, was taken to the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The second man, who sustained moderate injuries, was transported to the Canary Islands University Hospital for specialized care.
Emergency services, including the local and national police, have since cleared the scene. The National Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and whether it resulted from structural issues or negligence. Authorities are using this incident to highlight the importance of contacting emergency services immediately, as a rapid response is vital to preventing fatalities in house fires.
