Two Forest Fire Cameras Destroyed in Northern Tenerife
Police are investigating the deliberate destruction of two forest fire surveillance cameras in Northern Tenerife, which were cut down with an angle grinder in Los Realejos.
Someone has destroyed two surveillance cameras in Northern Tenerife that were used to help prevent forest fires.
This happened recently in the higher parts of Los Realejos, and authorities are aware of the incident. A source said one camera was found broken on Friday, and the second on Saturday.
Pictures of the damage show that whoever did this used an angle grinder to cut through the metal pole holding up the camera. The cameras were located in the Icod El Alto area of Los Realejos, near the entrance to concrete paths leading to farms and the forest. It's important to remember that some recent forest fires in Tenerife began near Icod El Alto.
Because of how serious this is, the National Police from the Puerto de la Cruz-Los Realejos station are investigating. They are working to find those responsible.
It's not yet clear why the cameras were destroyed. It could be linked to people trying to rob farms, or those wanting to commit other crimes, like starting fires, without being seen in this part of Tenerife.
The mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González Pérez-Siverio, commented, "Someone doesn't want us to watch the mountain with cameras to stop fires. But they won't succeed. I promise you."
