Two Firefighters Hospitalized After Accident During Adeje Blaze
Two firefighters were hospitalized after sustaining injuries during a blaze at a commercial building in Adeje, Tenerife, this Saturday.
The safety of emergency responders in urban areas is back in the spotlight following an accident this Saturday in Adeje, Tenerife. Two firefighters from the Tenerife Fire Consortium were hospitalized after being injured while battling a blaze at a business on Calle Universidad de La Laguna, near the municipal auditorium.
The incident highlights the dangers firefighters face when navigating buildings with altered or complex layouts. According to reports, one firefighter fell down a freight elevator shaft, suffering an arm injury, while his colleague sustained a shoulder injury during the same operation.
The emergency required a coordinated response from the island’s fire department and the Adeje volunteer unit. Local Police closed the street to ensure rescue teams could work and medical vehicles could gain access, while the Civil Guard secured the area.
The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) stabilized both firefighters on-site before transporting them to Hospiten Sur University Hospital. The event serves as a reminder of the extreme risks teams face when operating in commercial buildings, where poor visibility and modified structural elements can make emergency interventions incredibly hazardous.
