Two power plants with a total capacity of almost 25 MW will be built in Tenerife to quickly respond to energy emergencies and support the energy system of the Canary Islands.

The Tenerife government has approved the construction of two power plants to help in case of accidents. They will produce almost 25 megawatts of electricity. One station will be in El Rosario (14.8 megawatts) and the other in Granadilla (9 megawatts).

These stations are like "emergency assistance" for the Canary Islands' power system. They are easy to install and transport if needed. This will help avoid problems with electricity, especially after the energy emergency was declared on October 2, 2023.

In total, ten such power plants are planned to be installed in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Fuerteventura. They will help in important places where there is not enough electricity and will quickly respond to outages and heavy network load.

In addition to these stations, existing power lines are being improved (for example, between Tenerife and La Gomera), energy storage facilities are being built (like Salto de Chira), and renewable energy is being developed. All of this is being done to reduce carbon emissions and transition to "green" energy.

By the way, at yesterday's government meeting, it was decided to create a special office that will assist local councils and cities with planning issues.
