Two people have died, several are injured, and others are potentially missing after being swept away by waves in a natural pool in Los Gigantes, Santiago del Teide, prompting a major rescue operation following warnings of dangerous coastal conditions.
Two people have died and several others were injured after being swept away by waves in a natural pool in the Los Gigantes area of Santiago del Teide. Authorities believe two or three swimmers might still be missing. Medical teams are currently trying to revive one person who is in cardiac arrest.
A large number of emergency services and security personnel have been sent to the scene. Three helicopters are involved in the rescue efforts: one from Maritime Rescue (Helimer), another from the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), and a medical helicopter from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC).
The 1-1-2 emergency call center has also dispatched several ambulances, along with local police, Civil Guard officers, and an emergency doctor from the local health center.
This incident occurred days after the Canary Islands Government issued a warning about dangerous coastal conditions, advising people to stay away from the coast.
