Two Children Injured in Separate Traffic Accidents in Southern Tenerife
Two children were hospitalized with moderate injuries following separate traffic accidents in Adeje and Arona this past Saturday, renewing concerns over road safety in southern Tenerife.
Road safety in southern Tenerife is back in the spotlight after two children were injured in traffic accidents this past weekend. According to the 112 Emergency and Security Coordination Center, both incidents occurred on Saturday night, raising fresh concerns about how vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists share space in busy tourist and residential areas.
The first accident happened in Adeje on Avenida Barranco de Las Torres just after 8:00 p.m. An eight-year-old child was hit by a car and sustained moderate injuries. Emergency services treated the child at the scene before taking them to the Hospital del Sur. The driver involved also received medical attention.
Less than 30 minutes later, emergency crews were called to the neighboring town of Arona. A ten-year-old boy riding a bicycle collided with a car on Avenida El Palm-Mar. He suffered multiple moderate bruises and was taken to the hospital after being assessed by paramedics. Local police are now investigating the circumstances of the collision.
These incidents highlight the risks younger people face on public roads. While local authorities often promote safety through awareness campaigns and the creation of 30 km/h zones, these accidents serve as a stark reminder that drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists must remain extra vigilant when navigating the island's busy southern roads.
