Two Arrested in Granadilla de Abona Police Operation
Canary Islands Police arrested two individuals during a routine checkpoint in Granadilla de Abona, apprehending a wanted fugitive and a suspect found in possession of illegal drugs.
Public safety in the south of Tenerife is back in the spotlight following a recent operation by the Canary Islands Police in Granadilla de Abona. The Prevention and Intervention Unit (UPRI) conducted a routine checkpoint that resulted in two arrests, demonstrating the effectiveness of these patrols in catching wanted individuals and tackling local drug activity.
During the operation, officers identified a man wanted by Criminal Court number 3 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in connection with a bodily injury case. In a separate incident at the same checkpoint, officers arrested a second person for an alleged drug offense. A search of his belongings uncovered 126 grams of marijuana, 135 grams of hashish, and other substances. Both the suspects and the seized items have been handed over to the judicial authorities.
These checkpoints are a key part of the Canary Islands Police’s strategy to increase their presence in strategic areas. By combining the enforcement of outstanding arrest warrants with a visible deterrent against drug distribution, the police aim to improve safety in urban neighborhoods. Both detainees have been processed and are now awaiting further action from the courts.
