Two Arrested Following Violent Robbery in Las Galletas

Help from the public was key to solving a violent robbery in Las Galletas, Arona, this Tuesday, according to local police. Two men, aged 29 and 62, were arrested following the incident. While the case highlights how community awareness can help, police are reminding the public that intervening in crimes can be dangerous and that calling 112 should always be the priority.
The robbery occurred on Avenida Fernando Salazar González around 6:30 p.m. The suspects allegedly approached a woman sitting on a terrace and snatched her handbag, which contained 1,450 euros. Witnesses quickly alerted officers from the Drone Unit and the Police Prevention Unit (UPP) who were patrolling nearby, allowing police to intercept the men before they could escape.
A struggle broke out during the arrest as the suspects resisted. While bystanders managed to hold one of the men, the second suspect fled, only to be caught minutes later thanks to radio coordination between patrol units. Police seized a bladed weapon from one of the men, which increases the severity of the charges and reinforces the police warning against physical confrontation.
After being medically evaluated, both men were taken into custody to face a judge. The victim has filed a formal complaint with the Civil Guard. The suspects now face charges of robbery with violence, with potential penalties determined by the court based on the use of a weapon and the amount stolen.
