Two Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Two men were arrested in Santa Cruz de Tenerife following a high-speed police chase that involved multiple traffic violations, a collision with patrol cars, and the discovery of alcohol and drugs.
Two men, aged 19 and 31, were arrested in Santa Cruz de Tenerife early Wednesday morning following a high-speed police chase that spanned several major roads. The incident, which began at 12:50 a.m. on Avenida Marítima, involved multiple traffic violations and acts of resistance against law enforcement.
The pursuit started when officers signaled the vehicle to stop due to a broken light. Instead of pulling over, the driver—who did not have a valid license—fled through the city, driving through areas including Avenida Francisco La Roche, the Ramblas de Santa Cruz, and Valleseco. During the chase, the driver ignored traffic signals and struck two police patrol cars while trying to break through a blockade.
Officers eventually stopped the vehicle and had to break the windows to remove the occupants, who refused to exit. Once detained, it was confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation revealed the car lacked both a valid technical inspection (ITV) and mandatory insurance. Police also found alcoholic beverages and a small amount of hashish inside the vehicle.
The situation escalated further during a medical check-up, when one of the men attempted to assault an officer. Both individuals are now in custody awaiting court proceedings, and the vehicle has been moved to the municipal impound lot.
