Trial Awaits in Fatal Carnival Assault of Tenerife Restaurateur Francisco Rosales
The family of popular La Orotava restaurateur Francisco Rosales is seeking justice as the trial approaches for a 35-year-old man charged with his fatal assault during Puerto de la Cruz's 2025 Carnival celebrations.
The family and friends of Francisco Rosales, a popular La Orotava restaurateur known as "El jefe," are still grappling with the pain of his death following a fatal assault in Puerto de la Cruz. As the case moves toward trial, his loved ones hope the judicial process will finally clarify the circumstances of the attack and determine the criminal liability of the man currently in custody.
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 16, 2025, during the local Carnival celebrations. According to reports, Rosales was walking near the El Botánico area with a companion when they crossed paths with a group of people on Calle Aceviño. A 35-year-old man struck Rosales, causing him to fall and lose consciousness. He was taken to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC), where he died from his injuries two days later.
The investigation, led by the Homicide Group and the Judicial Police of Puerto de la Cruz, initially struggled to identify the attacker. However, after an extensive search, officers arrested a suspect on May 5. The man, who resides in northern Tenerife, now faces a charge of reckless homicide.
The tragedy has deeply affected the local community. Last weekend, friends and family gathered at the site of the attack to lay flowers and show their support for the victim's family. The tribute served as a way to honor Rosales’ memory and call for an end to senseless violence. A commemorative plaque, installed last December, remains at the site as a permanent reminder of the importance of public safety and peaceful coexistence.
