The incident began shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Camilo José Cela Street in Arona. Firefighters from the Las Chafiras station and the Local Police responded quickly to the scene. While the transformer was completely destroyed, the outage primarily affected lower-lying areas, with some higher parts of the neighborhood remaining connected to the grid.
Because the local health center could not operate without power, the Canary Islands Health Service redirected emergency patients to the clinic in Las Chafiras. This incident serves as a reminder of how fragile low-voltage power systems can be when faced with unexpected failures.
Repair crews are currently working to install a new transformer and electrical panels. Municipal authorities are prioritizing the restoration of power to ensure that daily life for residents in the area—which spans both Arona and San Miguel de Abona—can return to normal as quickly as possible.
