Trade Winds Persist Across Canary Islands as Temperatures Rise
The State Meteorological Agency reports that persistent trade winds will shape the Canary Islands' weather on June 11, bringing rising temperatures and clearing morning cloud cover across the archipelago.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated its forecast for Thursday, June 11, confirming that trade winds will continue to shape the weather across the Canary Islands. These moderate northeasterly winds will persist throughout the day, with occasional strong gusts expected early on, particularly on higher, exposed slopes.
This pattern of trade winds is typical for the islands, often creating a clear divide in cloud cover between windward and leeward areas. In Tenerife, temperatures are set to rise, reaching 26°C in Santa Cruz, with even warmer conditions expected in the mid-to-high altitude areas. While the northern regions will see some cloud cover below 900 meters during the morning, these should clear by midday. By the afternoon, westerly winds are expected to pick up across the central peaks.
The other western islands follow a similar trend. In La Gomera, San Sebastián will see highs of 26°C, with winds gradually easing as the day progresses. In Santa Cruz de La Palma, temperatures will range between 19°C and 24°C, with low-lying clouds in the north and east clearing by noon. El Hierro will be cooler, with Valverde expecting temperatures between 14°C and 18°C and moderate winds that may strengthen along the coast.
Overall, the combination of rising temperatures and northern cloud cover is driven by high pressure in the Atlantic. While the wind remains the dominant feature, the weather is expected to become milder as the day goes on.
