This week’s diverse film lineup balances the release of the animated blockbuster Toy Story 5 with a selection of international dramas, European thrillers, and a local biographical documentary.

This week’s film releases highlight the current variety in the movie market, blending major animated blockbusters with European art-house films and local documentaries. This Friday’s lineup shows the industry’s attempt to balance big-budget commercial hits with niche films that have already made waves on the international festival circuit.

The biggest draw is the fifth installment of the Toy Story franchise, directed by Andrew Stanton. Marking the series' 30th anniversary, this 3D production explores how a new AI-powered tablet changes playtime for Bonnie, while also bringing Woody and Buzz back into the spotlight.

In drama, Dreams is a standout co-production directed by Michel Franco. Starring Jessica Chastain and Isaac Hernández—who makes his acting debut following a career with the American Ballet Theatre—the film examines power and instability along the U.S.-Mexico border. Also arriving is Viva, the directorial debut from Aina Clotet. Recently screened at Cannes Critics' Week, the film tells a personal story about rebuilding one's life after a cancer diagnosis.

European cinema is well-represented by three distinct titles. The French comedy The Pleasure Is Mine, directed by Reem Kherici and starring Alexandra Lamy and François Cluzet, arrives after a successful run in France, where it drew over half a million viewers. For fans of thrillers, Case 137 from director Dominik Moll explores institutional ethics through an Internal Affairs investigation, featuring an award-winning performance by Léa Drucker. Rounding out the genre offerings is the psychological horror film Room No. 13, a Swedish adaptation of Mats Strandberg’s novel that premiered at the Sitges Festival.

Finally, the documentary Kid Vereje offers a biographical look at the life of Juan Fernando Pérez León, a two-time Spanish amateur boxing champion from the late 1980s. Directed by Ana Sánchez-Gijón, the film will have a special run at the Multicines Tenerife in La Laguna. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the director, highlighting the importance of supporting local storytelling in today's film industry.
