Timaginas Teatro returns to La Laguna’s Teatro Leal this Saturday for its annual production of Don Juan Tenorio, marking a generational transition as Armando Jerez performs the lead role for the final time.

This Saturday, the Teatro Leal in La Laguna will once again host a classic piece of cultural resistance: Timaginas Teatro’s annual performance of José Zorrilla’s Don Juan Tenorio. For nearly 20 years, this production has been a staple of the local All Souls' Day traditions, and tickets for this year’s show are already nearly sold out.

This performance marks a significant generational shift for the company. Armando Jerez, who has played the legendary seducer for over 25 years, will be performing as the young Don Juan for the final time. From 2027, Miguel Ángel Jerez will take over the lead role, while Armando will transition into playing the older, more mature version of the character. This change highlights the company’s commitment to continuity, supported by the return of María Rodríguez as Brígida—a role she has played alongside Armando since they first worked together in Madrid in 1999.

The production’s long-standing success at the Teatro Leal is due to its faithful adaptation and high-quality staging. The show, which involves a team of 20 professionals, has even been broadcast nationally by RTVE and is often used as a teaching tool to introduce students to Spanish Romanticism. Under the artistic direction of Carmen Rodríguez, the production features seven elaborate set changes and historically accurate costumes.

With a cast that includes Andreas Figueiredo Trujillo as Don Luis Mejía, Sandra Hernández de León as Doña Inés, and Angelo Olivier as the Commander, the show arrives during a busy period for Timaginas Teatro. The Canarian company is currently touring mainland Spain with several other acclaimed productions, including the award-winning La farsa del Siglo de Oro. Their continued success with Don Juan Tenorio proves that when classic literature is presented with rigor and institutional support, it remains a powerful draw for modern audiences.
