In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the city council cleared a volcanic cave where three people were living, offering them assistance and accommodation in a municipal center.

This morning in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a volcanic cave on Islas Canarias Avenue, where three people were living, was cleaned up. This was done jointly by various city council services: security (headed by Gladys de León), social services (Sharine González), public services (Carlos Tarife), and the Salud-La Salle district (Zaida González).

The city's mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, explained that this was necessary to ensure safety and cleanliness in the city, as well as to help people who found themselves in a difficult situation. "We are not just reclaiming public space, but also giving a chance at a normal life to those who lived in terrible conditions," he said.

The Municipal Institute of Social Assistance (IMAS) assisted in this operation. Its mobile unit (UMA) had previously supported these people, as well as others living on the street or in places unfit for habitation. Sharine González added that UMA is a team of social workers and medics who provide comprehensive assistance.

The three cave dwellers were offered a place in the Municipal Reception Center (CMA). There, they are promised social support, housing, and assistance with adapting to a new life. Police officers were present during the operation, but everything went smoothly and without problems.

Carlos Tarife said that public service workers immediately cleaned up the garbage and everything unnecessary in the cave. "We will also close and fence off this place so that no one lives there anymore and so that it is safe," he added.

Zaida González emphasized that the coordinated work of various services helped to quickly and effectively resolve this problem. "We want no one to live in unhealthy conditions, and for the city to be safe. Such operations take time, because first you need to help people, and then organize everything, but the result is worth it," she noted.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council assures that it will continue to care for those in need and do everything to make the city safe and comfortable for everyone.
