Three construction firms have submitted bids for the 1.2 million euro renovation of Santa Catalina Park in La Gallega, a project set to modernize the site as part of Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s strategic urban development plan.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has reached a key milestone in the renovation of Santa Catalina Park in La Gallega, with three construction firms submitting bids for the project. This tender marks the start of a major overhaul for the 10,000-square-meter site, a central part of the city’s "Suroeste Avanza" (Southwest Advances) strategic plan.

The companies competing for the contract—Asch Infraestructuras y Servicios, S.A.; a joint venture between Conacon, S.A.U. and Construcciones Sando, S.A.U.; and Probisa Vías y Obras, S.L.U.—have shown significant interest in the project. After years of requests from local residents, the renovation aims to modernize the park with accessible, sustainable facilities. If the evaluation and award process stays on track, construction is expected to begin in the final quarter of 2026.

The project has evolved significantly since its initial planning. Originally intended as a smaller-scale upgrade, it has expanded into a comprehensive reform following a June 2024 agreement between the City Council and the Cabildo of Tenerife. This partnership secured over 1.2 million euros in funding, which has already been included in the City Council’s 2026 budget.

The renovation directly addresses needs identified in the 2023 Participatory Budgets, where residents called for upgraded play areas, picnic spots, sports facilities, and better basic infrastructure.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted the project as part of a broader effort to balance the city’s growth with high-quality public services. Javier Rivero, the Councilor for Works and Infrastructure, added that the design goes beyond simple paving and lighting; it focuses on technical improvements like water management and creating an inclusive space intended to serve as a hub for social life in both the district and the wider capital.
