Spanish police arrested three men and issued 82 administrative reports for drug possession during an electronic music festival in Adeje, Tenerife, as part of a crackdown on synthetic narcotics at large public events.

Security at major music events in the Canary Islands is back in the spotlight following a police operation in Adeje on June 27. Officers from the National Police and the local Canine Unit intercepted three Spanish men, aged between 20 and 40, as they attempted to bring drugs into an electronic music festival near La Caleta, which was attended by nearly 8,000 people.

The operation, which involved 16 officers from the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR), highlights the authorities' growing concern over the rise of synthetic drugs in nightlife settings. The three men, who were acting independently, were found with various substances, including MDMA, ecstasy, "tusi" (pink cocaine), and rosin, intended for sale at the event. They were taken to police stations in southern Tenerife to face charges related to public health offenses.

Beyond the arrests, the operation revealed a concerning trend in recreational drug use. Officers issued 82 administrative reports for the possession and consumption of narcotics—mostly synthetic compounds—outside the venue. The success of the operation was largely due to the Adeje Canine Unit, which has become a vital tool in the island's fight against drug trafficking and frequently assists the National Police with surveillance and searches.

This deployment is part of a broader strategy to keep public events free from illegal substances. Coordination between local and national authorities is essential for large festivals, where careful planning is required to ensure attendee safety and prevent the distribution of dangerous designer drugs, which often carry significant risks due to their unknown chemical composition.
