Three Arrested Following Violent Robbery of Elderly Man in Candelaria
Three individuals have been arrested and charged with violent robbery and belonging to a criminal group after targeting an elderly man in Candelaria’s commercial district.
Security in Candelaria’s commercial district is back in the spotlight after a recent robbery led to the arrest of three people. The Civil Guard has charged two women and one man with robbery with violence and belonging to a criminal group.
The incident began when two of the suspects approached an elderly man and used a "snatch" technique to steal his gold chain and bracelet. Although the victim suffered minor injuries, he was able to alert a nearby police patrol by gesturing for help.
When the suspects tried to flee in a getaway car driven by their accomplice, officers quickly intercepted the vehicle. A search of the car revealed the stolen jewelry, leading to the immediate arrest of all three individuals.
Crimes targeting the elderly are treated with particular severity, especially when they involve violence or organized criminal activity. The case has now been handed over to the courts, where the suspects will face legal proceedings. Under the Penal Code, their involvement in a criminal group could lead to significantly harsher prison sentences than those for standard theft.
