Spanish police have arrested three suspects following the death of an 88-year-old British man who suffered a fatal head injury during an attempted robbery in Tenerife last June.

Police in Tenerife have concluded their investigation into the death of an 88-year-old British man who died following an attempted robbery in Los Cristianos last June.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 17, when two people approached an elderly couple near their home. The attackers attempted to steal the woman’s handbag, and a struggle ensued, leaving her injured. When the woman’s 88-year-old husband intervened, he was pushed to the ground. He suffered a traumatic brain injury after hitting a parked car and later died at the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital.

The robbery was unsuccessful thanks to witnesses who heard the couple’s cries for help, forcing the attackers to flee the scene empty-handed.

Following the investigation, three people have been arrested. One suspect has been jailed on a charge of homicide, while the other two have been released on bail while they await trial for robbery and assault.

Local authorities are highlighting this case as part of a concerning trend of violence against elderly residents and tourists. Police continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activity to help improve safety in the area.
