In Arona, the socialists are criticizing the coalition for an "unprecedented" garbage collection crisis, accusing them of neglecting the city and demanding the urgent development of a new cleaning contract.

José Julián Mena, a representative of the Socialist Municipal Group, has criticized the "unprecedented" cleaning crisis in Arona. According to him, residents are complaining en masse that streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces have become very dirty and neglected.

Mena believes that due to the management of the coalition of the People's Party (PP), the Canarian Coalition (CC), and Vox, the city is "in the worst state of pollution and neglect," and cleaning services do not meet the needs of the people.

With just over a year left until the end of the contract, the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) in Arona warns that time is running out to prepare a new contract. They believe that the coalition cannot constantly improvise and increase staff without updating outdated services. They recall that important contracts, such as maintenance and care of gardens, have already expired due to lack of planning. Therefore, they demand to immediately start developing and tendering a new cleaning contract, and not to "patch holes" with dubious changes, as is happening now, emphasized Deputy Raquel García.

"Residents are paying more than ever, but Arona is dirtier than ever," said José Julián Mena. He believes that it is urgent to start developing a new contract for cleaning and waste disposal, which expires in early 2027, in order to stop the improvisation and "patching of holes" that currently characterize the work of the authorities.

The PSOE in Arona emphasizes that pollution has reached an unacceptable level, which indicates a lack of coordination and management on the part of the coalition. "In two years of unstable work and constant changes between partners, Arona has never looked so neglected," added the representative of the socialists.

The socialists remind that residents, entrepreneurs, and even cleaning service workers have been complaining for several months about serious problems: dirty containers, mountains of garbage, unswept streets, sidewalks flooded with liquid, and entire areas where cleaning is not carried out at all.

"The measures planned by the coalition to resolve the crisis have led to nothing. The city remains dirty, management is ineffective, and complaints continue to come in," Mena claims.

The current cleaning and waste disposal contract costs more than twelve million euros and expires in early 2027. Therefore, the Socialist Group demands that the city authorities immediately begin developing and tendering new conditions "to provide Arona with a modern and efficient service that meets the real needs of the city and its residents."

"The coalition cannot continue to "patch holes" or simply increase staff without serious planning. It is time to prepare an ambitious, transparent, and reliable contract, because Arona cannot wait any longer," adds Raquel García.

The representative of the socialists also warns that "it would be unacceptable if the authorities tried to increase the waste disposal fee for Arona residents until there are real improvements in services, equipment, or resources."
