Tenerife will conduct large-scale exercises on evacuating large animals and responding to a volcanic eruption as part of the EU-Modex Tenerife 2025 week, culminating in a simulated eruption on April 26.

Tenerife is preparing for large animal evacuation drills. These will take place in the town of Garachico from the 22nd to the 28th as part of the EU-Modex Tenerife 2025 week. On the 26th, there will be practical exercises on responding to a volcanic eruption.

During the exercises, the transportation of cattle and other animals that cannot be kept at home as pets will be practiced. Participants will agree on how they will coordinate actions and help each other during the evacuation. The main goal is to quickly move the animals to a safe place using appropriate transport. All of this will first be discussed at a special meeting to ensure that everyone is prepared for any difficulties.

Throughout the week, experts will also work on issues of human evacuation, providing shelter and assistance, and how to properly inform the public. These are three important things to consider in order to help people during a volcanic eruption. Separately, a group of scientists will work to test how well they can respond to the threat of an eruption.

Anyone can participate in various activities: lectures, seminars and meetings with scientists.

The most important day is Friday, the 26th. Then, a volcanic eruption simulation will take place to test how well all services are ready to protect and help people. More than 1,000 people will participate in the exercises, and everything will be as close to a real situation as possible.
