Adeje wants to limit the construction of luxury villas for tourists.
In Adeje, Podemos-Izquierda Unida will propose limiting the construction of luxury villas for tourists in order to prevent chaotic development and protect the interests of local residents.
In the Adeje City Council, the Podemos-Izquierda Unida group will propose limiting the construction of luxury villas for tourists tomorrow.
Councilor Gabriel González says that too many such villas are being built, and this does not comply with local regulations.
According to representatives of Podemos-Izquierda Unida, these villas are being built to make money, but this leads to chaotic development, high resource consumption, and strain on municipal services.
They believe that this model only benefits wealthy tourists, while local residents suffer.
The proposal is based on the local tourism law, which defines where and how many such villas can be built.
In particular, the law limits the number of villas to 30% of the total built-up area and sets a certain building density. Villas must be located no closer than 200 meters from the seashore.
But, according to Podemos, these rules are often not followed in Adeje. This leads to chaotic development, high consumption of water and energy, and local residents are forced to leave due to high prices.
González explains that currently, the city authorities allow the construction of tourist villas without assessing the consequences for the city.
To correct the situation, Podemos proposes limiting the number of villas that can be built and suspending the issuance of new construction permits until it is verified whether the development complies with the laws.
Podemos warns that if the construction of villas is not controlled, it could harm the environment, complicate access to housing, and worsen life in the city. González says that luxury tourism is becoming increasingly detached from local life.
"The city is changing under the influence of the market, and the authorities are not controlling it," he concluded.
Tomorrow, at the meeting of the Adeje City Council, deputies will vote on this proposal.
