The twelfth Travesía Mar de Las Calmas swim has started in the Canary Islands, bringing together 450 swimmers, including children, to compete in distances from 2.5 to 18 kilometers in the La Restinga marine reserve.

Today marks the start of the twelfth Travesía Mar de Las Calmas swim, one of the coolest open water swimming events in the Canary Islands. It is organized by the municipality of El Pinar de El Hierro together with the Canary Swimming Federation. This year, 450 swimmers will come to compete and dive into the clear waters of the La Restinga Marine Reserve, a unique place on the planet.

From early morning, the sea will come alive with the splashing of hands. The longest distance, 18 kilometers, starts from the Orchilla lighthouse. This is a real challenge for the bravest, a real ocean marathon! Closer to lunchtime, the 6.5 kilometer distance starts from Tacorón, in the heart of Mar de Las Calmas. And immediately after that, participants in the 2.5 kilometer distance will swim from Naos Bay. They will feel the adrenaline as they swim in the protected waters of the La Restinga Marine Reserve.

And this year, for the first time, there will be Travesía Kids, a swim for children aged 5 to 14.
