In Palma, a mother is suspected of poisoning her daughter with autism with gas.
On the island of Palma, a woman allegedly poisoned her autistic daughter with gas and then attempted suicide, in what is being investigated as a murder.
On Monday evening, a terrible tragedy occurred on the island of La Palma, in the town of Breña Alta. A man, returning home around 10:30 p.m., smelled a strong gas odor.
Upon opening the door, he found his wife unconscious and her daughter showing no signs of life. It appears the girl died of gas poisoning. She was 32 years old and reportedly had autism.
The man immediately called the police and an ambulance.
According to preliminary information, the girl's mother, named M.E.P., poisoned her daughter with gas and then attempted to take her own life.
Local media reports that the woman was a well-known activist who defended the rights of people with disabilities in the Canary Islands.
On Tuesday, it was reported that the mother had been hospitalized. The daughter, according to acquaintances, attended a center for people with disabilities in the town of Los Llanos de Aridane.
The suspect had previously complained about the former director of this center, claiming that the staff mistreated visitors.
The court has launched a murder investigation, and M.E.P. is considered the main suspect.
The case is being investigated by a special team of judicial police.
Forensic experts from another island, Tenerife, arrived at the house in Breña Alta to conduct an examination.
