The prestigious Tour of the Island 2025 has started in Tenerife, including three stages with challenges for cyclists from all over the world.
Tenerife is hosting a cool cycling race this weekend – the Tour of Tenerife 2025! The organizers from the Island Cycling Federation of Tenerife have already presented the competition in Adelantado Square. This is where the second, and probably the most difficult, stage will finish.
Three stages await the participants, and each of them is a real challenge. The first stage starts tonight at 19:00 – it's an individual time trial, only 2 kilometers long. The racers will start in San Cristóbal de la Laguna and speed through the streets of the city. The distance is short, but technical and requires maximum speed – every second counts!
The second stage will take place tomorrow. The start is at 10:00 on Punta Larga beach in Candelaria. The distance is 36.73 kilometers. This is a mountain route that will take cyclists to Adelantado Square in La Esperanza (municipality of El Rosario). They will have to cover 36.73 kilometers, climb to a height of 1012 meters and gain 1292 meters in altitude. The route is difficult, running through Igueste, Barranco Hondo, Las Barreras and Las Rosas. This stage may decide who will be the winner in the overall standings.
The third, final stage is scheduled for Sunday at 16:00. It will be an urban circuit of 43 kilometers in La Laguna. Intermediate finishes will be on the 5th, 10th and 15th laps. Speed and the right strategy will determine who will be the 2025 champion.
Teams from different parts of the world will take part in the Tour of Tenerife, including: Equipo Loro Parque de Los Silos, Team Extremadura, Club Ciclista Lleida – D. Pedro’s, Equipo Ciclista Pelotón Tenerife de Santa Cruz, Gran Canaria Bike Team and the French team Lescar Vélo Sprint.
The Tour of Tenerife was first held in 1956 in San Cristóbal de la Laguna during the celebration of Santísimo Cristo. For almost seventy years, this sporting event has become one of the most prestigious cycling races in the Canary Islands. It is known for its challenging routes and for promoting the sport and beauty of the island.
